This week, California Congressman Duncan Hunter stunned the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) by announcing on television that 10 Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists were apprehended trying to illegally enter the U.S. from Mexico.
“I know that at least 10 ISIS fighters have been caught coming across the Mexican border in Texas,” Hunter told Fox News. “If you really want to protect Americans from ISIS, you secure the southern border — it’s that simple.”

The alleged revelation prompted DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson to respond to a flurry of media requests about the nation’s border security.
“In September the public heard a claim that four individuals with suspected ties to terrorism in the Middle East had attempted to cross our southern border,” Johnson said at a Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) event. “Far fewer know that, in fact, these four individuals were arrested, their supposed link to terrorism was thoroughly investigated and checked, and in the end amounted to a claim by the individuals themselves that they were members of the Kurdish Worker’s Party – an organization that is actually fighting against ISIL and defended Kurdish territory in Iraq. Nevertheless, these individuals have been arrested for unlawful entry, they are detained, and they will be deported.”
“So what I would say to the American public is, we’re vigilant in looking out for individuals of suspicion that may be crossing our border, and we have no specific intelligence that ISIL is planning to come into the U.S. through our southern border,” Johnson claimed.
Whew, American’s can rest easy, DHS is on top of the porous southern border and only four “Kurdistan Workers’ Party” (PKK) terrorists tried to sneak into the country.
However, the top border cop failed to mention a “tiny” detail. The PKK is on the U.S. Department of State and NATO terrorist watch lists, alongside al-Qaeda and ISIS. The DHS claims they did their due diligence and determined the illegal border crossers were just here for “the better life” party line and they will be deported promptly.
Johnson also said Rep. Duncan Hunter claims were “categorically false.”
While the Congressman is standing by his television remarks, it doesn’t help the general public when U.S. officials compete over national security for political gain. So far neither side is backing down and Rep. Hunter is kicking it up a notch. Today he sent a letter the Mexican Ambassador to the U.S. divulging more details about the PKK terrorists illegal entry into the U.S.
The letter reads in part; “…While I appreciate your attempt to highlight Mexico’s actions, I want to provide you with some information that I am assuming you know, but have chosen to ignore. Just yesterday, the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security revealed the apprehension of four individuals along the U.S.-Mexico border on September 10, 2014. And while these individuals were first identified as members of “designated terrorist organizations,” and identified each other as such, the Secretary has publicly downplayed the apprehension. However, what is relevant to this correspondence and according to information presented to the Secretary, these individuals traveled to Mexico, where they met with a person who spoke their language, and successfully acquired Mexican visas. They were taken by car to the U.S.-Mexico border where they crossed, reaching a stash house.”
The DHS announcement and Hunter’s letter to the Ambassador suggest neither the U.S. nor Mexican governments are being honest with the American people regarding U.S.-Mexico border security.
Another vocal Obama administration critic Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) told CBS he concurred that PKK is a terrorist organization; “I don’t think that should be dismissed as insignificant. It does demonstrate how porous or our border is. These are terrorists nonetheless and they had no trouble crossing our southern border. That’s a problem that must be addressed.”
These disclosures paint an entirely different picture than what DHS has been trying to sell Americans. This “political window-dressing” also conflicts with law enforcement agencies, which were very busy leading up to the September 11 anniversary. Both the federal government and the Texas state government issued multiple security bulletins. These “situational awareness alerts” included pretty disturbing warnings.
“A review of ISIS social media messaging during the week ending August 26 shows that militants are expressing an increased interest in the notion that they could clandestinely infiltrate the southwest border of US, for terror attack,” the Texas Department of Public Safety bulletin said.
A background press briefing illustrated how worried intelligence officials are about the possibility the war in the Middle East spilling-over to the U.S. homeland. “We are monitoring active plotting that posed an imminent threat to the U.S. and potentially our allies. That was the united view of our intelligence community.”
The report lends credence to the lone wolf attacks strategy on the homeland. “The individualized nature of the radicalization process—it is difficult to predict triggers that will contribute to (homegrown extremists) attempting acts of violence…lone offenders present law enforcement with limited opportunities to detect and disrupt plots, which frequently involve simple plotting against targets of opportunity.”
Taking advantage of their social media prowess, ISIS’ media arm has successfully reached many disenfranchised young adults of all persuasions. The bulletin highlighted this fact; “Social media account holders believed to be ISIS militants and propagandists have called for unspecified border operations, or they have sought to raise awareness that illegal entry through Mexico is a viable option. The identities of persons operating these accounts cannot be independently verified; however the accounts were selected for monitoring based on several indications that they have been used by actual ISIS militants for propaganda purposes and collectively reach tens of thousands of followers.”
Somehow the “border is secure” mantra seems to be more of a desert mirage…

Absence of a bold plan for destroying ISIS costs another hostage his life
“ISIL is not invincible,” according to the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) Director Matthew Olsen. The radical Islamic group that easily crossed borders, disarmed U.S.-trained Iraqi army and successfully terrorized ethnic minorities can be decimated with swift action. But the Director said ISIS “poses a direct and significant threat to us, and to Iraqi and Syrian civilians in the region, and potentially to us here at home.” Link here http://www.examiner.com/article/the-absence-of-a-bold-plan-for-destroying-isis-costs-another-hostage-his-life
